The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

I just finished reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. Is that a great title or what? My friend Amy (She's a teacher too!) just finished reading it and thought I should read it too. It's a young adult book that our kids might read. Although...I'd give it to 8th or 9th graders.

Before reading the Pants book, I read The Rule of Four by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason. It has some of the same elements as The Davinci Code. But it's much harder to understand because the authors look back and look forward. Plus, it's less about decoding and more about the relationships between the characters. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Shoo Fly!

For some unknown reason, I have about four houseflies flying around my apartment. These are some quick flies! After trying to sneak up on them like I am some sort of ninja and still missing them, I have decided that I need advanced technological equipment. I think that I should get the Flip Flop Fly Swatter. Aren't they just the cutest things?

Loving the Swimming

I am an Olympics nut. I love the Opening Ceremony. I love any sort of drama that might occur. I am a huge sucker for the profiles that NBC runs on the athletes. I LOVE IT!! And so does someone at Google. Have you seen their graphic of late?

Rochester - here I come!

I am off to Rochester, NY to visit my family for the next six days. I can't wait to....have a chocolate almond cone at Don & Bob's, shop on Park Ave, see my sister's new apartment, go see Our Lady of Mercy HS (my alma mater) and the new addition, and of course, I can't wait to spend time with my family!

Cute Boot Alert!

I found another pair of cute rubber boots. They are by Esprit and I love the pink and yellow ones! They make me wish it was April so I could clomp through the rain puddles.

I just got the thick September edition of Lucky Magazine. There is so much to look at! I am very intrigued by a little article about Miss Jessie's curly hair products. Curly Buttercreme sounds like it would do just the trick for my dried out summer curls!

FSIAP

This weekend was the First Saturday In August Party (FSIAP). My cousin Marty's family owns a house on the Cape and has been throwing this party every year for the last 21 years. 21 YEARS!!! It was a lot of fun. There was sun, swimming, lobster, and lots of beer. The weather on Saturday and Sunday was perfect, although Friday night was freezing! The house is funky and sits on a beautful beach. Here are a few pictures that I took on Saturday morning before everyone else woke up. Obviously, at 7:30am, it was low tide! The view was really quite lovely. It was just as lovely to get to see my cousins. What a fabulous weekend!

I must have been a sailor in another life!!

I LOVED my sailing lesson yesterday. I loved the Community Boathouse - it was so pretty and weathered! (See picture.) I learned all sorts of wierd words like halyard and mizen mast (sp?) and main boom! The sun was setting as the lesson was ending and the Charles River looked absolutely gorgeous! Our teacher is Christian and he looks...young, very very young! But he did a great job and we all learned a lot. I can't wait to go back to learn rigging!
I have a meeting/potluck dinner tonight in Cambridge so I will be stopping at Woolcott and Co. in Harvard Square. They are having a sale on all of their yarns. I think I want some cashmere/mohair/wool yarn to make mittens. Everything is 25% off so I figured I'd splurge!
And last - I will be through with my summer job tomorrow and heading to the Cape for the weekend. I can't wait!

You can get these at Garnet Hill. But I bet I could make this! Just knit an extra big gameboard and felt it! Buy some game pieces and voila! - you have a present for someone!! Christmas is coming...
